CHARACTER DESIGN
This design brief required us to produce a 3D Model for either a product, wearable object, anatomical model or a character. This process is similar to using traditional clay sculpting and techniques, yet applying it into 3D software.
Having not modelled anything organic I choose to create a character as it would be challenging, yet also interesting in knowing how to use the software to be able to produce organic objects as opposed to only knowing how to create products.
The software we used for this project was Sculptris and Mudbox. Sculptris is a great and easy program to use to create the anatomy and structure of the character. Mudbox however, is a bit more technical compared to Sculptris. This allowed for finer details and textures to be put on the character, as well as painting the final outcome.
Having chosen to create a character, the character had to have a high level of detail and texturing along with high quality finished renders showcasing its features and environment. An overall report of our design process also had to be included with a character turntable.
I decided to design an alien type character, set within either a movie or a game. Known as ‘Peaches’ I based his anatomy of that of a human, as I wanted to learn and have practice with human anatomy and knowing what was correct physically. I also wanted his features to be more subtle, so a lot of detail went into his anatomy, shape and texture on his form and skin. I choose the purple and blue for the skin tone as this is foreign to our pink, red, cream skin tones and would defiantly have a visual impact and be eye catching.
